Injured Hargreaves out for season
Owen Hargreaves Manchester United midfielder will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The 27 years have undergone surgery on his right knee Monday and a new operation is scheduled on the England player's left knee in a fortnight.

He was hit by a tendinitis problem for almost two years.

"I hope this has been at the bottom of things and we'll make good return for next season," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson of his £ 18m signing.

He was limited to only 37 appearances for United since his transfer from Bayern Munich in July 2007.

Ferguson added: "I had the operation on Monday and it went well, although we do not know the exact details until he gets back. It must have another operation on his left knee in a few weeks. "

The decision to operate came after Hargreaves visited the renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman, who is based in Colorado.

The most famous knee surgeon in the world, Steadman recorded England Striker Alan Shearer professional football in 2000 and also operates on the Newcastle striker Michael Owen and former United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Canadian-born Hargreaves missed the start of the 2007/08 season to return after Christmas to play a role in the United Champions League and Fa Barclaycard Premiership triumph.

However, the tendinitis has erupted again in pre-season and he made three appearances during this campaign.

His latest injury setback means that it plays no role in the England 2010 World Cup in spring 2009.
