Reid rules out Sunderland return
Former Sunderland boss Peter Reid insists he is not interested in a return to the Stadium of Light.

Reid was in charge of the Black Cats between 1995 and 2002 and is currently coach of the national team in Thailand.

He was quoted as saying that he would consider a return as a successor to Roy Keane, who resigned Thursday.

But he said: "I did not say that I wanted to return to Sunderland. I have not been offered employment at Sunderland and I will not if I'm offered it. "

The 52-year-old former Everton midfielder and England man moved to clarify its position after seeing Thailand beat Laos 6-0 in the Suzuki Cup in Phuket.

Reid added: "I have not asked for employment in Sunderland. I was eleven and he loved it is a great place but I am enjoying working here. "

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn and his fellow board members are included in the evaluation of more than 30 serious candidates before meeting in the next 48 hours to reduce the field to a handful of contenders.

Accordingly, there is no guarantee an appointment will be made Saturday before the crucial home clash with bottom side West Brom - and that could mean an extended stay at the head of coach Ricky Sbragia and assistant Neil Bailey and Dwight Yorke.

Keane packages to the deluge of applications worldwide, with former Black Cats defend and coach Sam Allardyce remains the bookmakers' favorite.

Keane himself hopes to return to management in the future, but did not say when.

In a statement issued by the League Managers Association, he said: "I've lived and learned a lot in the past 27 months and enjoyed the rigors of being a manager.

"I'm looking forward to building on those experiences and in the future, the return to football management."
