Barry to wait on Villa decision
Gareth Barry says he will wait to see if Aston Villa reach the Champions League before deciding his future.


The midfielder, who has 18 months left on his contract next summer, has undergone four bids did not Liverpool at the end of the season.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Champions League football is huge and we are not far from reach.

"(But) the manager (Martin O'Neill) and I will not talk about anything until we saw what we have achieved this season."

Last month, O'Neill has confirmed that Barry's future commitment to Villa until "at least" the end of the season.

O'Neill said: "It will be seen here until the summer - at least - and see where we are all positioned.

"So any speculation in January will do just that. I could not be happier. Its form is very good."

O'Neill and the hope is to top-four finish in the Premier League and Champions League qualification persuade Barry, 27, to stay.

However, O'Neill has admitted that Barry, who has the opportunity to buy the final 12 months of his contract, may move elsewhere.


O'Neill said: "Any form of options open to him. It will be in the driving seat if he continues to perform the way he is doing.

"Gareth can buy himself his final year. I understand that, but it has never been a major problem with the owner of football club [Randy Lerner].

"There was no pressure from the owner to cash in. He was pleased to hear the news, and Gareth is.

"I know this is an old cliché, but Gareth is really just now concentrate on Footballing aspect."

Barry England international has been with the Midlands club for 10 years and was valued at £ 18m by O'Neill.
