Benitez 'close' to Liverpool deal
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed he is close to signing a new agreement to Anfield after accepting salary and length of a new contract.

Benitez, 48, revealed there are still some points that need to discuss before he puts pen on paper.

"We decided the length of the contract and we agreed to compensation.

"Now we have to discuss my role and my responsibilities as manager of the club," the Spaniard told the Liverpool Echo paper.

It was reported that a potential Stalling for any new operation was that Benitez wanted complete control over transfers.

But the Liverpool manager, denied there was any problem between him and the American club co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett on the remaining terms of the agreement.

"I have no problems at all with the American owners. My agent has received the draft of my contract (Monday) evening," he said.

"My surprise is that some journalists may speak there are problems even before I read and discussed."

Details of the contract and the salary offered to the manager of Liverpool have not been announced.
