Wenger reveals Barry interest

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted he is interested in signing midfielder Aston Villa Gareth Barry.

Wenger wants to land was a central midfielder following the pre-season departures of Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva.

Liverpool were unable to seal an agreement for Barry, who is desperate to leave Villa Park, and although Wenger is concerned by England stars on the sales value, it could be fixed in step with offer.

"There's always interest," said Wenger. "I can not tell you much more. He is a player that we follow.

"Barry I find a good player. The problems with players who are 27, 28, is that you pay a lot of money but you get nothing back, not for resale."

Wenger has already signed Mikael Silvestre of Manchester United this week and he revealed it took a final intervention by beating Manchester City defender for the french its signature.

"It was in advanced talks with Manchester City already," Wenger told the Daily Express.

"I do not know if he finished medical or not, you may explain, but I learned that he was totally free."
