City can´t be serious about Ronaldo bid, says Gill

Manchester United managing director David Gill said he would treat suggestions that Manchester City could table a 135 million pound bid for Cristiano Ronaldo with a pinch of salt ".

Ronaldo heads to the new English Premier League season always closely followed by Real Madrid, which has not tried, but during the summer to ensure the Portuguese international's signature.

But now cross the city rivals Manchester City have entered the fray.

Sulaiman Al-Fahim, the billionaire businessman at the centre of the club taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group, said he wants to build a "dream team" that can compete in the Champions League in next three years.

And he added that they might be willing to make a world record bid of 135 million pounds (210 million dollars) for the star.

Gill, speaking to BBC Radio Five Live show on Sunday, admitted that any club enthusiastic about the idea of making such an offer important for a player.

But while highlighting the fact that United manager Alex Ferguson has been the subject of complaints to the Premier League during its quest for new signing Dimitar Berbatov, Gill said he needed to convince about the 'authenticity of the city ambitions.

"It was an interesting comment, I think this is a fan's-type comment," said Gill.

"It is interesting when Alex [Ferguson] mentioned the signing Dimitar Berbatov in advance that the complaints were made to the Premier League.

"He (al-Fahim) mentioned (Fernando) Torres and (Cesc) Fabregas in the same article, so I think we'll deal with a pinch of salt.

"I've never met the man. It is a fantastic amount of money and would turn the industry's so I can not believe he is serious these kinds of levels.

"Ultimately we will discuss any offer with Alex and landlords, that this kind of money is very important for a person. But we are not in the market to sell our best players."

Gill also insisted the club remained "entirely within the rules" during their pursuit of Berbatov.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has called for a change in transfer rules, and first complained of the Premier League, the United approach for the player.

Gill, however, rejected allegations that United has nothing to reproach.

He added: "We're very comfortable with how it went. There were allegations made, we are comfortable that we approached the way it was quite correct and the rules. "

Gill also confirmed that they would be looking to finalize a permanent agreement for Argentina striker Carlos Tevez.

He said: "A few other cases, we will do is finalize the transaction Carlos Tevez, then the composition of the team will be first class."
