Man City to stick with youth plan
Manchester City will not give up their highly successful youth policy despite the huge investment planned in the transfer of funds to the club.
City's prospective new owners, Abu Dhabi, United Group, pledged to spend large sums on new players.
But the academy has produced more than 20 first team players in recent years.
"The youth policy still has a role to play," said manager Mark Hughes. "What we are now have the means to strengthen this process."
Shaun Wright-Phillips, Micah Richards and Michael Johnson went through the system to the City, which is managed by academy director Jim Cassell.
And Hughes added: "The Academy has been very successful in recent years. With additional funds, it may even produce better players.
"It is important for any team to have a group of players who have empathy for the club.
"We have with the guy who went through the academy.
"But we are not simply fill the team as a symbolic gesture at work does the Academy.
"The quality of players must be sufficient to play in the Premier League. That's what their work is judged."
City broke the British transfer record when they paid Real Madrid for £ 32.5m Brazilian Robinho on transfer deadline day.
The Abu Dhabi United Group have already made their intentions, arguing that they intend to make the city "bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United."
And the club have been linked to a host of big names players such as Liverpool's Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal and Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo.
