Terry wins appeal to face Man Utd
Chelsea captain John Terry was cleared to play against Manchester United on Sunday after his appeal against a red card yielded good results.

Terry was sent to a fault on the Manchester City striker Jo, but an audience of football Chelsea confirmed the claim of unfair dismissal.

He received a red Mark Halsey, with the referee judging the incident of serious abuse.

The England skipper was set to miss three games.

The ban was implemented, Terry would have missed Sunday's crucial Premier League clash with champions United and equal Carling Cup against Portsmouth on September 24 and the league encounter with Stoke three days later.

The fault on Jo occurred inside the centre circle, with Terry centre-back partner Ricardo Carvalho covering the game and full-back José Bosingwa also sprint to defend.

Chelsea is on the ground complaints were initially based on the fact that Terry was not the last defender.

But Halsey's decision to issue a red card for misconduct rather than playing professional misconduct means the position on the ground and the presence of other players were not relevant.
