Carrick out for up to six weeks
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick will be for up to six weeks after it was revealed he broke a bone in his foot.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury in a tackle by Yossi Benayoun in the first half of Saturday losing 2-1 to Liverpool and left on Crutcher Anfield.

"This is not shot well for us," said Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He has a small crack in his foot which was diagnosed on Sunday afternoon. It is not good news."

The injury is another setback for Carrick, who had just returned to action after three weeks with an ankle injury suffered in the United opening match of the season against Newcastle.

He was forced to withdraw from the England team for the friendly against the Czech Republic and then missed two World Cup against Andorra and Croatia.

Carrick latest injury also rule him in England next two qualifers against Kazakhstan and Belarus next month.

He missed United's opening Champions League game against Villarreal on Wednesday, their second against Aalborg on September 30, and possibly their third against Celtic on October 21.
