Zola agrees to take West Ham job
West Ham have agreed a period of three years with Gianfranco Zola for Italian club to become the new manager.
The former Chelsea striker, 42, were held talks with the Hammers last week about succeeding Alan Curbishley, along with Roberto Donadoni and John Collins.
But, as revealed by BBC Sport, West Ham has opted for more than Zola former Italy coach and former Hibernian boss, and he should be announced before the weekend.
"Gianfranco was our first choice," a senior club source told the BBC Sport.
"We were very comfortable with the three options that we had - Zola, Donadoni and Collins - but Gianfranco came out on top."
West Ham has interviewed the current Italy under-21 coach last week, while managing director Scott Duxbury then travelled to Rome to talk with him on Sunday.
42 years, is preparing to face Italy on Tuesday in Croatia for the final European qualification In-21 Championship, they need to win or draw to qualify for the tournament in Sweden.
West Ham believe Italian, who has played for Chelsea from 1996 to 2003, has the attributes to be a great success at Upton Park.
"It 'true that he has no experience of managing a club, but he knows the Premier League very well," the source added.

"His English is very good and I can speak English football with players and inspire them.
"He has a record of young players developing, which is very important for us, and was obviously a world class player.
"Experts players like to have a manager who can respect as a footballer."
And Chelsea and England captain John Terry Zola suggested would one day go to the Blues manager.
"I am sure that one day I'll be back to Chelsea to work with us," said Terry, speaking in Zagreb ahead of England's World Cup qualifying against Croatia.
"He's got a little 'more after the experience of management in Italy-21 side in such a way that would be great for him to get more experience at West Ham and, hopefully, one day Chelsea manager."
The Hammers have moved quickly to take an impressive manager from Curbishley resigned last Wednesday.
Fossero been eager to interview Croatia coach Slaven Bilic, but granted the former West Ham defender because he wanted his country to continue coaching part-time until the end of 'years.
Getafe chief and Michael Laudrup joined Spartak Moscow before the Hammers were able to speak with him.
Collins, who has managed Hibernian, also impressed in interviews, while the former head Donadoni Italy was among the front runners before withdrawing his application on Tuesday.

"I welcomed the opportunity to speak with such a major Premier League clubs and, of course, the possibility of coming to the English Premier League.
"However, it seems that the board have not yet, after a certain time, reach an agreement and a conclusion that the candidate should be.
