Portsmouth report Campbell abuse
Portsmouth intend to make a formal complaint to the Football Association on insults aimed at Sol Campbell from Spurs fans at Fratton Park last Sunday.

Campbell, who opted to leave Tottenham on a free transfer to Arsenal Rivals in 2001, was subjected to prolonged abuse.

Portsmouth fans complaints were made to Hampshire police, who initially said they could not act because of the large number of Spurs fans involved.

The FA said it will ban for life any fans can prove they are related.

BBC Sport Gordon Farquhar explained that the FA and local police are now dealing with the matter.

"They wanted a formal complaint to come from the club too that strengthens their legal position because they intend to crack," he said.
"The FA say they are not beating Spurs as a club is to identify those responsible and ensure that they are now banned from football for life."

Pompey has urged the FA to investigate after holding talks with Campbell, their 34 years, captain of the club.

In a statement Portsmouth, said: "Both Sun and the club does not feel player must be subjected to abuses of this nature and has no place in football.

"The club will be urging the FA to address this issue urgently and to cooperate fully with any investigation taking place, either by the FA or by Hampshire police."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Hampshire police confirmed that a complaint was made and that it would be an investigation.
