Blues receive Drogba injury boost
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba expected to be for "weeks, not months" after having picked up a knee injury in the Champions League match against CFR Cluj.
It was first fear he had suffered severe damage to the knee ligament injury in the 0-0 draw with the Romanian side.
But a Chelsea statement said: "It will not require surgery.
"We will keep under observation before putting an estimate of how long it will, but we are certainly looking at weeks, months."
The statement added: "Didier Drogba had two rotations of strength in his knee and ankle. Fortunately, he avoided any ligamentum rupture."
The evaluation of the injury Drogba will be a boost to the attacker who was only his third start since being a knee during the summer.
Chelsea, already missing injury victims Joe Cole, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien, in the form of face Aston Villa at home in the Premier League on Sunday.
John Terry and Alex Cluj suffered hits in the game, but the Chelsea manager Luis Felipe Scolari is convinced Ashley Cole will be good for the weekend after missing Wednesday Champions League match with a back problem.
