Southgate hands Wheater challenge
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has challenged to defend David Wheater to fight for his place after missing Sunday 2-1 victory at Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, 21, was still present in the Premier League before the trip to Villa Park and Southgate urged Redcar-born stopper to rebound.
He told BBC Tees: "I hope he will respond the right way, I went out last year and was much better.
"It's a great young player and we want to keep improving it."
