Van der Sar extends Man Utd deal
Goalkeeper of Manchester United Edwin van der Sar signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at Old Trafford until 2010.
The 38 years, the Dutch joined Fulham United from £ 5m in 2005 and made 161 appearances.
"His temperament, professionalism and performance have not changed a bit since I've been with us," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Obviously, this will be his last year. It was absolutely wonderful here. "
Since joining United, Van der Sar has twice won Fa Barclaycard Premiership and Champions League once.
His save for Nicolas Anelka of the sentence handed Ferguson's men victory over Chelsea last May in Moscow.
The former Ajax and Juventus stopper has retired from international law with the Netherlands at the end of Euro 2008, but returned on an ad hoc basis during the October World Cup because of injuries.
Van der Sar Rivals for the jersey of the goalkeeper, and Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak, have not so far succeeded in usurping him on a permanent basis.
"What I've done very well for us in the past two years is to contribute to the development of young goalkeeper," said Ferguson.
"We use Ben and Tomasz a bit now, which allows us to Edwin costs for games really important.
"Edwin has bought very well. He completely understands the situation. It plays a large part in ensuring the overall situation is there for us with Ben and Tomasz."
