Liverpool boosted by Skrtel news
Liverpool have been boost by the news that the defense of Martin Skrtel did not need surgery on his knee injury and could return to action by Christmas.
The 23 years of oxygen necessary to defend as he left the field on a stretcher after falling awkwardly in the Reds' 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
He is afraid he could face a long clarify with posterior cruciate ligament damage to his right knee.
But a spokesman for the club said: "It is expected to be back before Christmas."
He added: "Martin has been examined by a specialist on Tuesday, which confirmed the player does not require surgery."
Skrtel, who was signed from Zenit St. Petersburg in January, has forged a strong partnership with Jamie Carragher at the heart of the Liverpool defense.
The Slovak Daniel Agger has kept away from the coast but his injury May open the door for the return of Dane, manager Rafael Benitez admitted: "Everyone can see that the understanding between Martin and Carra is in the process to become really good and lose a player who is doing well is always a problem.
"Martin has learned a lot. I have already had good qualities when we brought here, and we had confidence in him. But you can still improve, especially playing alongside experienced players and working under the staff here, and it is made.
"It's bad news, but we have other options. He has given me a selection headache this season, but it is a good problem for me as manager. "
Liverpool have granted only four goals in seven Premier League matches this season and sit second in the table behind Chelsea on goal difference.
Benitez's side have also made a fine start to their campaign of Champions League with victories each of their opening two Group D matches.
